1. An apparatus for forming an ophthalmic device, the apparatus comprising:
a free form processing male mold mandrel comprising a convex optical quality surface upon which said ophthalmic device may be formed by crosslinking a reactive mixture without shaping according to a cast mold, wherein at least a portion of the convex optical quality surface is part of a container suitable for holding a volume of a said reactive mixture and at least a portion of the convex optical quality surface protrudes into a space within the container, wherein a volume of said container is greater than a volume of the ophthalmic device to be formed therein, and wherein a shape of said container does not influence a shape of the ophthalmic device to be formed therein; a light source including a plurality of beams of actinic radiation each directed through the male mold mandrel and the convex optical quality surface at a different, predetermined location, each of said plurality of beams being selectively controllable to thereby selectively cure portions of the reactive mixture through the male mold and convex optical quality surface. |
