PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a walking support device for a vision-impaired person, which detects a bump or dent on a sidewalk and informs the person of the detected bump or dent.SOLUTION: When the vision-impaired person walks on a flat surface of the sidewalk without bumps or grooves in Fig.3(a), the measured distance by the walking support device 10 for the vision-impaired person is d(m). When the vision-impaired person walks on a surface of the sidewalk with a bump in Fig.3(b), the measured distance by the walking support device 10 just in front of the bump is d(m). When the vision-impaired person walks on a surface of the sidewalk with a groove in Fig.3(c), the measured distance by the walking support device 10 just in front of the groove is d(m). When the walking support device 10 detects the bump on the surface of the sidewalk, the measured distance is d(m) shorter than the measured distance d(m) when the surface of the sidewalk is flat. When the walking support device 10 detects the groove on the surface of the sidewalk, the measured distance is d(m) longer than the measured distance d(m) when the surface of the sidewalk is flat. The walking support device 10 for the vision-impaired person detects whether an obstacle is a bump or groove based on the measured distance, and informs the vision-impaired person of the obstacle by vibrating a vibrator 12. |
