The invention relates to a hinge system for a bonnet (1) of an automobile, including a hinge (2) provided with a mobile knuckle (21) and a fixed knuckle (22) hinged relative to each other about a pivot axis (20) and further including a hinge mounting (3) to which the fixed knuckle (22) is attached. The hinge system is characterised in that the hinge mounting (3) includes a base (30) and a means (31) for connecting the fixed knuckle (22) to said hinge mounting (3), said connecting means (31) being adapted so as to bend and/or break upon the application of a predetermined stress on the hinge (2) before any deformation of the base (30), and in that the fixed knuckle (22) includes a first portion (25) connected to said base (30) and a second portion (26) connected to said connecting means (31). The present invention can be used in the field of pedestrian safety in the event of an impact with an automobile.
