PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge electrode in which displacement of a coil from an electrode core material can be suppressed.SOLUTION: A discharge electrode 3 is provided in the discharge space of a discharge lamp. The discharge electrode 3 includes an electrode core material 31, and a coil 32. The coil 32 is provided on the outer peripheral surface 31a of the electrode core material 31. Out of the outer peripheral surface 31a of the electrode core material 31, at least an object region S including a part of a contact part C, in contact with the coil 32, has a surface roughness larger than that of a region excepting the object region S.
