PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving the performance of an electrode having a photocatalyst, in decomposition of water using the photocatalyst.SOLUTION: An electrode 320 includes a transparent conductive layer 323, a plurality of current collecting wires 327, and a photocatalyst layer. When L (m) represents the length of each of the collecting wires 327 in a first direction, W (m) represents the width in a second direction between a current collecting wire at the end in the second direction and a current collecting wire at the end in the direction opposite to the second direction, D (m) represents the distance in the second direction between two neighboring current collecting wires, R (&OHgr;/square) represents the sheet resistance of the transparent conductive layer, I(A) represents the reference current value collected by the current collecting wires, and &Dgr;(V) represents the target improvement value of the voltage loss due to use of the current collecting wires from the reference voltage loss caused by the transparent conductive layer in collecting the reference current value I through the transparent conductive layer without use of the current collecting wires, the distance D is "L-((2*W*&Dgr;)/(I*R))" or less. |
