PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character recognition device that realizes character separation even if it is impossible to obtain a threshold due to generation of local character collapse or noise, and provide a character extraction method for the character recognition device that realizes reliable character extraction even if it is impossible to obtain the threshold.SOLUTION: A data processing unit comprises a character extraction part 132 that detects a boundary location between adjacent characters in a character string and also extracts each character. The character extraction part 132 includes: a boundary retrieval range setting part 1322 that sets a range of retrieving the boundary location between adjacent characters in the character string; and a boundary location setting part 1323 that uses a discriminant analysis method within the set retrieval range to set the boundary location between the characters. The data processing unit extracts each character from a character string extracted from image data and then recognizes characters. |
