PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology of preventing false recognition due to misalignment of an input image when an imaging apparatus moves, without increasing memory consumption and processing cost.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus includes: video input means; area dividing means which divides an image acquired by the video input means into a plurality of areas each including pixels having similar attributes; feature extraction means which extracts features from each of the areas divided by the area dividing means; background model storage means which stores in advance a background model generated from feature of background; and feature comparison means which compares the features extracted by the feature extraction means with feature in the background model, to determine whether or not background is made for each of the area.
