Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for estimating a distance using dual color filter apertures. An object detection unit detects an object from an image photographed by a camera having dual off-axis color filter apertures (DCAs) on which a first filter with a first color, and a second filter with a second color which is a complementary color of the first color are mounted. A color shifting value (CSV) calculation unit calculates a CSV using color shift characteristics between image color channels in an area corresponding to the detected object. A distance estimation unit estimates a distance from the camera to each point on the object based on camera parameters including a focal distance and a focal plane of the camera and positions of the apertures, and the calculated CSV. The present invention detects the object and estimates a depth at the same time to determine the distance while discriminating each object in an object area where an overlapping region exists by using the DCA.
