The present invention relates to an automatic channel setting apparatus in a car audio system and a method thereof which can change a channel to an equal broadcasting or a similar broadcasting automatically without the operation of a driver when moving to another region during traveling. The automatic channel setting apparatus of the present invention includes: a GPS receiver for detecting position information of a present region; an electric field intensity detection part which detects electric field intensity of a receiving signal to judge reception sensitivity of a frequency channel received by a tuner; a time information providing part for providing time information; and a control part which judges the reception sensitivity of the present channel on the basis of the electric field intensity of the receiving signal detected by the electric field intensity detection part, and judges whether to change a region by analyzing position information of the present region in case the reception sensitivity is remarkably low compared to a predetermined reference level according to the judgment result, and extracts a frequency channel corresponding to the present time by referring to the time information provided from the time information providing part in case of changing the region, and changes the frequency channel of the tuner automatically on the basis of the same. |
