The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device with an improved transmittance of a pixel region and a method for manufacturing the same which can improve the efficiency of TFT channel design and manufacturing efficiency. The liquid crystal display device according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: a plurality of pixel regions defined by crossing of a plurality of gate lines and a plurality of data lines; a thin film transistor (TFT) comprising a gate formed in the pixel regions, a gate insulating layer formed to cover the gate, an active area formed only on the gate with the gate insulating layer disposed therebetween, a source formed at one side of the active area, and a drain formed at another side of the active area; a pixel electrode supplying data voltage to the pixel regions connected to the drain of the thin film transistor; and a common electrode supplying common voltage to the pixel regions.
