The present invention relates to a production method of graphite oxide which is used as an intermediate compound to produce a graphene structural material, a large area graphene structural material having the large specific surface area and produced by using the graphite oxide, and a production method of the graphene structural material. The production method of the graphite oxide includes the steps of: producing graphite slurry comprised of graphite and nitric acids; producing graphite oxide slurry by adding an oxidizing agent into the graphite slurry and then oxidizing the graphite; and obtaining graphite oxide by washing out the graphite oxide slurry.
