The invention implements a detecting device capable of adequately exhibiting its performance even if used integrally with a high-resolution display device. A detecting device capable of carrying out position detection processing using both a self-capacitance system and a mutual-capacitance system, in which a position-detecting electrode group, formed in a region in which position detection is to be carried out by position detection processing, is driven by means of a touch panel controller in such a way that, for example, position detection processing is carried out using the self-capacitance system in a vertical fly-back period (52), and position detection processing is carried out using the mutual-capacitance system in a horizontal fly-back period within an effective vertical scanning period (51).
