PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an α-olefin low polymer, which, especially in a method for producing 1-hexene, improves selectivity of a target product while maintaining activity in an acceptable range.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for producing an α-olefin low polymer by carrying out a low polymerization reaction of an α-olefin in the presence of a catalyst and a solvent, the catalyst comprising a transition metal-containing compound, an aluminum containing compound, and hydrocarbons having two or more carbon atoms and substituted by a halogen atom(s). The production method comprises a reaction step, a purification step, and a circulation step where an unreacted raw material α-olefin and the solvent are circulated from the purification step to the reaction step. An amount of an olefin having two or more carbon atoms and substituted with a halogen atom(s), supplied from the circulation step to the reaction step, is in a range of 0.1 or more and less than 200 (molar ratio) relative to an amount of the transition metal in the reaction step. |
