TRICHOME SPECIFIC PROMOTERS

Trichome specific plant promoters are provided herein. Also provided are transgenic cells and organisms, especially plant cell and plants, comprising such trichome-specific promoter or a chimeric or vector comprising such trichome-specific promoter. The invention further provides methods for expressing nucleic acid sequences in cells and organisms using trichome specific promoters.

A transgenic plant, plant cell, plant tissue, or plant organ, comprising a chimeric gene integrated in its genome, the chimeric gene comprising a trichome-specific promoter operably linked to a homologous or heterologous nucleic acid sequence, wherein the promoter is selected from the group consisting of:
(a) the nucleic acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 4, SEQ ID NO: 3, SEQ ID NO: 1, or SEQ ID NO: 2; (b) a functional fragment of the nucleic acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 4, SEQ ID NO: 3, SEQ ID NO: 1, or SEQ ID NO: 2; (c) a nucleic acid sequence comprising at least 70% sequence identity with the nucleic acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 4, SEQ ID NO: 3, SEQ ID NO: 1, or SEQ ID NO:2; and (d) a functional fragment of the nucleic acid sequence of (c).
