EXTRACT OF PLANT MATERIAL OF THE GENUS CROCUS L. HAVING HIGH LEVELS OF BIO-INSECTICIDE ACTIVITY

Phytophagous insect pests affect a large variety of crops and are of particular relevance in sustainable agricultural systems where the use of synthetic products is restricted. The invention relates to an alcoholic extract of plant material of the genus Crocus L. having high levels of bio-insecticide activity, characterised in that it: comprises 3‐O‐β‐D‐glucopyranosyl‐(3R)‐hydroxybutanolide; is easy to obtain; and presents no toxicity problems. The invention also relates to: the method for obtaining the extract; a phytosanitary composition comprising the extract; the use, as a bio-insecticide, of the extract, of the phytosanitary composition and of compounds present in the extract that are identified for the first time as having bio-insecticide activity; and a method for controlling insect pests.
