PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silicon-oxide-coated zinc oxide capable of suppressing elution of zinc ions from zinc oxide particles, a manufacturing method of the zinc oxide, and a composition and a cosmetic which contain silicon-oxide-coated zinc oxide.SOLUTION: A silicon-oxide-coated zinc oxide of the present invention is formed by coating a surface of a zinc oxide particle by a silicon oxide film, in which an average particle diameter of zinc oxide particles exceeds 50 nm and is not more than 500 nm, and when an abundance ratio of silicon in the silicon oxide film in Qenvironment is Qand the abundance ratio in Qenvironment is Q, Q+Q≥0.6 and Q/(Q+Q)≥0.5 are established.
