The invention relates to mold material mixtures containing an oxide of aluminum and an oxide of zirconium as particulate mixed metal oxide, in combination with refractory mold base materials and a water glass-based binder system. The mold material mixtures, also in the form of multicomponent systems, are used for the production of molds and cores for the foundry industry.

1. A mold material mixture for producing casting molds and cores for metal processing, comprising:
a) a refractory mold base material; b) water glass as an inorganic binder; and c) at least one particulate metal oxide, wherein the particulate metal oxide is at least one of:
at least one particulate mixed oxide;a particulate mixture of at least two oxides; andat least one particulate mixed oxide in addition to at least one additional particulate oxide; andat least one particulate mixed oxide in addition to at least one further, different particulate mixed oxide is present, and wherein the at least one particulate metal oxide comprises at least one oxide of aluminum and at least one oxide of zirconium.
