The purpose of the present invention is to provide a brass-plated steel wire for reinforcement of rubber articles, that is capable of improving over-vulcanization adhesiveness. The present invention is a brass-plated steel wire for reinforcing rubber articles, that is characterized by: including on the outermost surface thereof no more than 4.93-14 at% zinc and no more than 50 at% oxygen, as measured by XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy); and the atomic volume ratio between copper and zinc in said outermost surface being more than 2.33 and no more than 6. |
