PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical film, by which surface defects of an optical film caused by alignment failure in a rubbing treatment can be decreased.SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an optical film includes at least the following steps: a step of conveying a continuous support body 26 having an alignment layer-forming layer on a first surface; a rubbing treatment step for forming an alignment layer, in which the alignment layer-forming layer is brought into contact with a rubbing roller 72 that is driven to rotate while the support body 26 is pressed to the rubbing roller 72 by winding the support body 26 at a lap angle &thetas; on the rubbing roller 72 that is disposed at a rubbing angle α with respect to a width direction orthogonal to the conveyance direction so as to impart a first pressure F1 to the support body, as well as by blowing gas from a nozzle 50 to the second surface of the support body 26 to impart a second pressure F2, where the second pressure F2 is higher in a center part of the support body 26 than in each end; and a step of applying a coating liquid containing a crosslinkable liquid crystal compound on the rubbed alignment layer. |
