A transparent frozen soil, made by subjecting fluoropolymer, particulate ice, and a colorless and porous liquid to the steps of preparing, mixing, evacuating, and freezing. The fluoropolymer is Teflon AF1600 produced by the U.S. company DuPont and has a refractive index of 1.31, a particle size of 0.25 mm - 2.0 mm, and a density of 2.1 g/cm 3 - 2.3 g/cm 3. Also disclosed is the use of said transparent frozen soil in testing directional frozen-soil-blasting models and in thermal-melt landslide testing of model frozen-soil embankments. The transparent frozen soil simulates well the properties of natural frozen rock, and is suitable for use in model testing for rock engineering purposes. Testing results are precise and the invention allows for the visualization of transformations within the rock body. Moreover, the invention is low in cost and easy to use. |
