An access tool for providing access into a vessel of a human or animal body, the access tool comprising: an elongate arm; and a foot for insertion into the vessel, the foot being located at one end of the elongate arm; wherein the foot comprises a first footplate and second footplate slideably movable relative to one another in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the elongate arm to control a variable separation between the footplates; such that, when the foot is inserted into the vessel, a separation defined between the two footplates forms a pathway into the vessel. |
