A porous carbon material for an electrode of an energy storage device containing a porous carbon material, an insulating material that has a boiling point of 150ºC or greater in the amount of 0.5-5 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of the porous carbon material, and an electroconductive aid in the amount of 0.25-15 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of the insulating material; and having a BET specific surface area of 1300-2050 m2/g. The insulating material and the electroconductive aid are supported by being combined in the porous carbon material.
