The present invention relates to a method and device for identifying a protocol type. The method comprises: acquiring a data packet transmitted through a connection established between a user terminal and a server; searching in a multi-dimensional user information table for multi-dimensional user information corresponding to the user terminal, the multi-dimensional user information being used for indicating information of all connections currently established by the user terminal; if the multi-dimensional user information corresponding to the user terminal is found, conducting protocol type identification based on the multi-dimensional user information on the connection where the data packet is located according to the information of all the connections currently established by the user terminal, wherein the information is identified by the obtained multi-dimensional user information; and if the multi-dimensional user information corresponding to the user terminal is not found, conducting protocol type identification based on a data stream on the connection where the data packet is located according to packet characteristics of the data packet. The present invention implements protocol identification based on the multi-dimensional user information and thus implements service control based on the user. |
