The invention relates to a protective layer system (10) for an anode (1) comprising metallic lithium and belonging to a lithium cell, for example a lithium-sulfur cell and/or lithium-oxygen cell. In order to increase the service life and safety of the cell, the protective layer system (10) comprises a lithium ion-conducting layer (11) on the anode side, in particular an inorganic layer, wherein the anode-side layer (11) has an anode contact side (11a) that can be or is placed on the anode (1), wherein, on a side (11b) of the anode-side layer (12) that is opposite the anode contact side (11a), there is arranged at least one lithium ion-conducting layer (12, 12', 12"; 11' 11"), in particular polymer layer, which (12, 12', 12"; 11' 11") contains at least one agent (13) that can be reacted with metallic lithium to form an electrically insulating solid (13*).
