PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foreign matter removal device which is capable of reducing the occurrence of defective products by quickly removing foreign matters on an outer peripheral surface of a roll and suppressing wear of the outer peripheral surface of the roll and tips of doctor blades, and to provide a foreign matter removal method.SOLUTION: A doctor device (foreign matter removal device) comprises: a plurality of doctor blades 20 provided side by side along the axis direction of a roll 10; a doctor blade driving part 23 which moves respective doctor blades 20 independently from other doctor blades 20 between an advanced position and a retracted position; and a detection part (for example a line sensor 40) for detecting foreign matters attached to an outer peripheral surface of the roll 10. On the basis of positions of foreign matters detected by the detection part in the axis direction of the roll 10, it moves, among the plurality of doctor blades, doctor blades 20 corresponding to the positions of the foreign matters, from the retracted position to the advanced position. |
