A separation membrane structure is provided with: a base material formed from a porous inorganic material and provided with a first end surface and a second end surface in the longitudinal direction and a flow path linking the first end surface and the second end surface and wherein a fluid to be treated circulates; a separation membrane formed on the inside wall surface or the outside wall surface of the flow path; and an alkali resistant sealing layer formed at least on the first and second end surfaces.
