Disclosed is a method for monitoring resource information and user activity. The monitoring method comprises the following steps of: acquiring one or more data streams from one or more resource meters and one or more electronic device sensors; computing discrete events from each data stream; extracting a sequence of discrete sensor-meter event itemsets based on the events; collecting data on a frequency of sensor-meter event co-occurrence itemsets, and determining a frequency of occurrence of each sensor-meter event itemset; matching rising sensor-meter event itemsets and falling sensor-meter event itemsets based on appliance state models and the frequency of occurrence of each sensor-meter event itemset; identifying each individual fixture on the basis of clustering the matched sensor-meter event itemsets by using features of the sensor-meter event; classifying each fixture cluster with a fixture category by using a multi-modal fixture model trained with respect to the features of the sensor-meter event; and determining user activities and resource usage information for each fixture usage event identified based on the matched fixture events, fixture clusters, and categories. |
