536,253. Opening bands of continuous filaments. PHRIX ARBEITSGEMEINSCHAFT. Sept. 12, 1939, No. 25630. Convention date, Sept. 17, 1938. [Class 120 (i)] A band of continuous artificial filaments is opened by passing it between toothed cards or combs which move in the same direction as the band but at a lower velocity. As shown the band from a roll h is first passed over rotating beaters c and under bars d before passing around a drum e and between the toothed rollers f<SP>1</SP>... f<SP>5</SP>; the band is drawn between the rollers by rollers g<SP>1</SP> and fed into a can and the toothed rollers are driven by the band and braked by weighted cords or springs. The teeth z are bent so that they point in the direction from which the band is fed and they retain a grip on the band as it issues from the pairs of rollers so that the filaments are drawn apart in a plane vertical. to the direction of travel as well as laterally. Specification 494,227 is referred to.
