METHOD FOR MAKING SULPHURIC ACID

Continuously producing sulfuric acid (50), comprises: (a) reacting a sulfur compound with oxygen in a combustion chamber to form sulfur dioxide; (b) catalytically oxidizing sulfur dioxide of the step (a) under the formation of sulfur trioxide; and (c) absorbing and/or condensing sulfur trioxide of the step (b) into sulfuric acid, where the step (a) takes place in several zones within the combustion chamber, and the reaction heat of the step (a) is removed between the zones, so that the temperature within the combustion chamber is not > 2000[deg] C. An independent claim is also included for a device for continuous production of sulfuric acid comprising: at least a combustion chamber for combustion of the sulfur compound; a tubular contact apparatus for catalytically oxidizing sulfur dioxide into sulfur trioxide; a device for absorbing and/or condensing sulfur trioxide; a device for purifying the exhaust gas; and a device for recycling unreacted amounts of oxygen and sulfur dioxide of the step (b) into the combustion chamber, where the combustion chamber has several combustion zones, which are separated from each other by a device for dissipating the heat.
