The present invention provides a method and an apparatus for controlling a device by recognizing a motion and an indoor location of a user in a home network system. The method for controlling a device which provides a service on a first terminal of a home network system according to the present invention comprises the steps of; recognizing a motion of the first terminal to receive a motion recognition event from a second terminal within a predetermined time; identifying a location of the first terminal and an effective service range of at least one device; activating an interface for controlling the at least one device when the first terminal is located within the effective service range of the at least one device.
