Imaging a cylindrical obj ect (4), a pair of viewpoint images (21L, 21R) is stored to a data memory 17. To calculate a diameter D of the cylindrical object (4), corresponding points (28, 29) that are set on outlines (25a, 25b) of the right viewpoint image (21R) in accordance with measurement points (26, 27) designated on outlines (24a, 24b) of the left viewpoint image (21L) are used. While one (26) of the measurement points is fixed on the outline (24a), the other measurement point (27) is scanned on the other outline (24b), so that the pair of measurement points (26, 27) is designated at two points having a shortest distance. Whenever the distance between the corresponding points (28, 29) is varied in synchronization with this, the diameter D is calculated, and its minimum value is determined as the diameter of the cylindrical obj ect (4). |
