<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the degree of freedom for screen processing with a simple configuration. <P>SOLUTION: A threshold matrix having a resolution higher than that of image data is used during a high resolution mode. Memories 31-34 associate threshold values corresponding to a plurality of pixels when a pixel in the image data is subject to high resolution conversion at a high resolution, with an identical address, and the memories 31-34 respectively store therein these threshold values. The individual memories 31-34 concurrently output a threshold value corresponding to an address Ads. A threshold value determination part 5 performs weighted average of the threshold value outputted from the individual memories 31-34, and determines the resulting threshold value as a threshold value used for screen processing. During a low resolution mode, a threshold matrix having the same resolution as image data is used, and the memories 31-34 respectively store threshold values corresponding to addresses assigned to the memories 31-34. The memory that stores a threshold value corresponding to the address Ads outputs the threshold value.
