A method for manipulating one or more particles comprising exposing the particle(s) to a beam of radiation that is able to lift and or impart an acceleration to the particle(s) to cause it to move in a curved trajectory.

A method for manipulating one or more particles comprising exposing the one or more particles to a curved accelerating propagating non-Bessel beam of radiation, wherein the beam is curved in its direction of propagation and has an optical potential configured to lift and impart an acceleration to the one or more particles to cause simultaneous transverse deflection and vertical guiding of the one or more particles along the curved accelerating propagating beam in the direction of propagation of the beam to move the one or more particles from a current position to a new position in a curved trajectory, wherein the one or more particles are guided by the optical potential of the curved accelerating propagating beam until the beam's optical potential is overcome and the one or more particles fall under an action of gravity.
