AUDIO ENCODER, AUDIO DECODER, METHODS FOR ENCODING AND DECODING AN AUDIO SIGNAL, AUDIO STREAM AND COMPUTER PROGRAM

An encoder providing an audio stream on the basis of a transform-domain representation of an input audio signal is disclosed. The encoder comprises a quantization error calculator and an audio stream provider. The quantization error calculator determines a scalar multi-band quantization error over frequency bands of the input audio signal, for which separate band gain information is available. The audio stream is provided such that it comprises spectral information describing an audio content of the frequency bands and information describing the multi- band quantization error. The quantization error calculator determines the multi-band quantization error over a plurality of frequency bands each comprising at least one spectral component quantized to a non-zero value while avoiding frequency bands, spectral components of which are entirely quantized to zero. A method for providing the audio stream and a computer program product for executing the method are also disclosed.
