A method of treating an autism spectrum disorder, comprising administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of a composition comprising one or more flavonoids, wherein the one or more flavonoids are present in an amount of 10-3,000 mg per tablet or capsule and the flavonoids comprise luteolin, and optionally, a serotonin blocker, a histamine-1 receptor antagonist, a histamine-3 receptor agonist, an antipsychotic agent, a heavy metal chelator, and olive kernel extract and, wherein the composition inhibits brain blood vessel leakage.
