The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for treating colorectal cancer or inhibiting metastasis thereof, comprising an inhibitor inhibiting the activities or expression of cadherin-11 protein. According to the present invention, cadherin-11 is over-expressed in a colorectal cancer cell line. By inhibiting the expression of cadherin-11 using small interfering RNA (siRNA), as a result, the invasion of cancer cells and cell migration become diminished, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and cell signal transduction are inhibited as well. Moreover, it was found that the expression of cadherin-11 can be induced directly by zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 2 (ZEB2), an EMT-induced transcription factor, in a cell line developed with colorectal cancer, liver cancer, and stomach cancer. Therefore, the cadherin-11 can be useful for a pharmaceutical composition for treating colorectal cancer, liver cancer, and stomach cancer or inhibiting metastasis. |
