An airbag start-up decision apparatus processes the signals of two acceleration sensors as part of a failsafe determination to avoid erroneous activation. A first integrator integrates output values of the acceleration sensors to obtain a first operation value. A second integrator starts a cumulative integration of the output values of the acceleration sensors and uses it as a trigger to determine whether the first operation value exceeds a first predetermined value and to obtain a second operation value. A third integrator integrates the second operation value to obtain a second order integration value (third operation value) of the output values of the acceleration sensors. A map derivation value is determined using the third operation value as an input into a threshold value map and is compared to the first operation value. The airbag decision is executed when a main decision and the failsafe decision are confirmed. |
