1. A recording apparatus comprising:
a light radiating unit that radiates light to an optical recording medium; a recording unit that performs light emission control of the light radiating unit, and performs recording on the optical recording medium; and a control unit that performs execution of a process for replacing a recording area of the optical recording medium with a spare area using a virtual address that corresponds to the spare area, wherein the process is executed in a state in which a logical address space, a virtual address space, and a physical address space are defined, wherein the virtual address space is obtained by adding at least the spare area to the logical address space, and wherein the physical address space is obtained by adding a buffer area to the virtual address space, wherein the control unit registers in a defect list, based on the virtual address space, information of virtual addresses of a replacement source and a replacement area that corresponds to the spare area, after the replacement area is secured.
