The present invention relates to a composition for treating or preventing cancer, containing an extract of sweet potato leaves as an active ingredient. Especially, the extract of sweet potato leaves as the active ingredient of the present invention shows remarkably excellent cell-proliferation inhibiting effects on colorectal cancer cells and effects of expressing p53 transcription factors which are tumor suppressor genes, compared to an extract of a sweet potato root tuber. In addition, the composition of the present invention contains, as the active ingredient, water extracts of natural ingredients derived from plants which have been used for food for a long time, thereby causing no side effects. Moreover, the composition uses sweet potato leaves which have been limitedly used or usually discarded, thereby showing high industrial effectiveness. |
