PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a highly accurate electric charge accumulation result for focus detection with a simple configuration.SOLUTION: A control method of a focus detection device which has a plurality of sensor arrays corresponding to a plurality of metering points, and a plurality of memory units for retaining an electric charge to be transferred from the plurality of sensor arrays, respectively, is configured to: select any of the metering points; control the sensor array corresponding to the selected metering point by a first type in which the electric charge generated in the sensor array is accumulated in the sensor array; control an adjacent sensor array by a second type in which the electric charge generated in the sensor array is transferred to the memory unit; monitor a signal level of the electric charge retained in the memory unit for each sensor array; control the sensor array, and an accumulation ending of the electric charge in the adjacent sensor array controlled by a first accumulation method on the basis of the monitored signal level; and detect a focus state on the basis of an image signal corresponding to the electric charge obtained from the sensor array controlled by the first accumulation method. |
