PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic tape device capable of releasing contact between magnetic tape and a magnetic head while achieving miniaturization by suppressing increase in the manufacturing cost, and to provide a maintenance method of the magnetic tape device.SOLUTION: The magnetic tape device includes: a magnetic tape as a storage medium; a transportation unit for moving the magnetic tape along a transportation path; a magnetic head arranged on the transportation path and reads/writes data to the magnetic tape moving on the transportation path; and a lifter unit arranged on the transportation path, abuts to the magnetic tape being stopped on the transportation path, and is capable of reciprocating in a direction crossing the transportation path so as to separate the magnetic tape from the magnetic head. |
