PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of highly efficiently producing a liquid crystal layer having areas with different alignment states of liquid crystal molecules.SOLUTION: According to an embodiment, an optical film manufacturing method includes the steps for: coating different areas on an alignment substrate film with a plurality of types of solutions containing liquid crystal compositions, where the coated plurality of types of solutions produce a stripe-like planar pattern; drying the plurality of types of solutions to form a respective plurality of liquid crystal layers derived from the plurality of types of solutions on the alignment substrate film; and having liquid crystal substances of the plurality of liquid crystal layers align and fixing the alignment of the liquid crystal substances.
