The present invention relates to a paper yarn comprising a red algae fiber and a production method thereof and, more specifically, to a paper yarn which comprises 20-99 wt% of a long fiber and 1-80 wt% of the red algae fiber. According to the present invention, the paper yarn is thinner than a conventional counterpart, but has high strength and is opaque, thereby offering a high-quality paper yarn.
