PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent reproducibility of an image density from being deteriorated in black-and-white reading in an image reader configured to control a gain with respect to a size of read image information in each of colors in accordance with the quantity of light from a light source of a plurality of colors.SOLUTION: An image reader includes: the light source which irradiates an image with light in a plurality of predetermined colors and includes means for adjusting the quantity of light in each of the plurality of colors; and reading means for reading the image irradiated with the light in the plurality of colors from the light source and outputs the image as image information. When reading a color image in the image reader, the quantity of light in each of the plurality of colors is adjusted in such a manner that a value of image information corresponding to each of the colors outputted from the reading means is settled within a predetermined range. When reading a black-and-white image, the quantity of light in each of the plurality of colors is adjusted in such a manner that a value of the image information outputted from the reading means is settled within a predetermined range on the basis of the quantity of light in each of the plurality of colors adjusted in the case where the color image is to be read. |
