PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water pump capable of preventing foreign matters from entering a mechanical seal.SOLUTION: A water pump 9 comprises: a pump housing 20; a cover housing 22; and a rotary shaft 25, and an impeller 26 is fixed to one end of the rotary shaft 25. The rotary shaft 25 is pivotally supported by a bearing 24 and water-sealed by a mechanical seal 27. The mechanical seal 27 is disposed closer to the bearing 24 and a volume part 31 filled with coolant is formed between the mechanical seal 27 and the impeller 26. The coolant is attracted toward a discharge port 29 by the rotation of the impeller 26 although stagnating in the volume part 31. Owing to this, foreign matters, even if moving into the volume part 31, do not enter the mechanical seal 27. It is, therefore, possible to ensure the water seal function of the mechanical seal 27 and guard the bearing 24. |
