摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide module which suppresses or improves the degradation in optical coupling efficiency of a rear type optical element and can be made small-sized and low-cost, and a manufacturing method thereof.SOLUTION: An optical waveguide module includes a first substrate 201 including an optical waveguide, an optical element 202 having an electrode 205 formed on a front side thereof to receive/emit an optical signal from a rear side, and a second substrate which has the optical element 202 mounted thereon and is provided with a connection part 210 electrically connected to the electrode 205 on the front side of the optical element 202. The optical element 202 is so disposed that the rear side of the optical element 202 faces one side surface of the first substrate 201 and a light receiving/emitting part disposed on the front side of the optical element is optically coupled to an end part 206 of the optical waveguide, and a thickness dimension between the rear side and the front side of the optical element is set to a prescribed value.
