PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting element having a high light extraction efficiency, in which poor separation is less likely to occur when dividing the wafer for crystal growth substrate by breaking.SOLUTION: A light-emitting element 10 includes a protective layer 14 and an LED chip 15. The LED chip 15 includes a planar substrate 11 for crystal growth having translucency, irregularities 11a formed on the second surface of the substrate 11 for crystal growth, a semiconductor layer 12 constituting a light-emitting element structure formed on the first surface side of the substrate 11 for crystal growth, and an electrode 13 formed on the semiconductor layer 12 and becoming the anode side electrode and cathode side electrode of the LED chip 15. The protective layer 14 has translucency and predetermined hardness and fragility, and covers the second surface where the irregularities 11a of the substrate 11 for crystal growth are formed. |
