PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image compression circuit capable of suppressing image quality deterioration caused by compression to a minimum.SOLUTION: Image data converted from an RGB format to a YUV format by an image data conversion circuit 1 are divided into a plurality of unit regions each formed from a predetermined number of pixels by a first quantization circuit 2, and quantization is performed by setting a plurality of virtual representative values xfor each unit region, thereby acquiring virtual quantized data A. On the basis of the plurality of virtual representative values xand the virtual quantized data A, an optimization circuit 3 calculates a plurality of optimal representative values xminimizing an error of data compression for each unit region in accordance with a least-square method, and a second quantization circuit 4 performs quantization again on the basis of the plurality of optimal representative values x, thereby acquiring optimal quantized data A. On the basis of the plurality of optimal representative values xand the optimal quantized data A, in a packing circuit 5, compression data are packed into a predetermined data set structure. |
