PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing D-lactic acid to obtain highly purified D-lactic acid.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for producing D-lactic acid, which comprises: a fermentation process in which D-lactic acid-producing microorganism is cultured in a culture medium containing a first base for fermentation production of D-lactic acid to obtain a fermented liquid; a pretreatment process in which sulfuric acid is added to the fermented liquid dropwise to obtain a lactic acid solution; a neutralization process in which a second base is added to the lactic acid solution to obtain a neutralized liquid; an esterification process in which lower alcohol is added to the neutralized liquid for esterification to obtain a liquid containing lactic acid ester; a distillation process in which the liquid containing lactic acid ester is distilled to obtain a distilled liquid containing lactic acid ester of a higher purity; and a hydrolysis process in which lactic acid ester in the distilled liquid is hydrolyzed to obtain D-lactic acid. |
