[Class 51 (ii).] In a horizontal or inclined gas retort setting in which tertiary air is admitted at points remote from the combustion chamber the tertiary air ducts form part of the structure which is periodically rebuilt instead of being built in the more permanent structure of the setting. In the examples described the tertiary air ducts are built in the transverse division walls 10, or form hollow piers therefor. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the ducts 24 are built in the thickness of the division walls, either of channel-section blocks, Fig. 4, or of blocks such as shown in Fig. 5. The tertiary air may be supplied direct from atmosphere as shown at 23 or it may be taken from the preheated secondary air supply.</p> |
